Welcome to the wonderful world of puppy parenthood! As a new owner of a purebred pup, we understand that you want to provide your little one with the best care possible. One of the most important aspects of that care revolves around what your puppy eats. Knowing which foods are safe and which are harmful can be a bit of a minefield, especially with so much conflicting advice available. But worry not - at Perfect Pedigree Thailand we're here to help!

Safe Foods for Your Puppy
  1. Lean Meats: Chicken, turkey, and fish are all great sources of protein for your puppy. Just make sure to remove any bones and cook the meat thoroughly to kill any bacteria.
  2. Vegetables: Not all vegetables are safe, but many are excellent for your pup. Carrots, cucumbers, and peas are all rich in essential vitamins and minerals.
  3. Fruits: Apples, bananas, and blueberries are all safe for your puppy to consume. Just remember to remove any seeds or pits, as they can be harmful.
  4. Rice and Pasta: These can serve as a good source of energy. However, they should be served cooked and plain - no butter, salt, or sauce.
  5. Peanut Butter: A popular treat for dogs, peanut butter is safe as long as it doesn't contain xylitol, a sweetener harmful to dogs.

Foods You Should Avoid
  1. Chocolate: Probably the most well-known no-go food, chocolate contains theobromine which is toxic to dogs and can cause severe health problems.
  2. Grapes and Raisins: These fruits can cause kidney failure in dogs, even in small quantities.
  3. Onions and Garlic: All members of the allium family can cause damage to a dog's red blood cells, leading to anemia.
  4. Alcohol and Caffeine: These can cause rapid heart rate, seizures, and even death in dogs.
  5. Avocado: Avocados contain persin, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs.
  6. Xylitol: Found in many sugar-free and low-sugar products, xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs and can lead to liver failure.
See a much more comprehensive (but still not exhaustive!) list here.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it's a solid starting point for understanding what's safe and what's not. When in doubt, it's always best to consult with your veterinarian. They can provide guidance based on your puppy's breed, size, and individual health needs.

We hope this guide helps you navigate your puppy's dietary needs. If you found this blog post helpful, please share it with other new puppy parents. Remember, a well-fed pup is a happy and healthy one.
